EU chief Ursula von der Leyen outlined her vision for an enlarged European Union that would include Ukraine on Wednesday – but Kiev still has a way to go to get the green light for accession talks, Hungary being considered a potential block.

EU countries are due to decide in December whether to allow Ukraine to begin accession talks – a decision that would require unanimous support from all 27 countries in the bloc.

European Commission President von der Leyen told the European Parliament that Ukraine had already made “great progress” since it was named a candidate for membership last year, although it struggles to repel the Russian invasion.
